YEREVAN, June 5. / ARKA /. Chairing a National Security Council meeting today Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan warned of dramatic changes in the region anticipated in 3-4 years saying that the country should be prepared for them. He cited experts who say Azerbaijan is going to experience a fiasco in two or three years.
“Moving along the path of classical dictatorship, the Azerbaijani authorities use their resources to portray Armenians as the enemy of Azerbaijani people,’ the president was quoted as saying by his press office.
According to the president, socio-political and economic landmines inherent in Azerbaijan will explode quickly and at the same time.
Sargsyan was said to have stressed that amid ongoing reduction in oil and gas production, the Azerbaijani authorities continue to waste the accumulated funds.
According to the president, the rationale of official Baku’s is based on getting momentary pleasures. Funds are being spent with insane speed on pompous construction projects, billions of dollars are being spent on various projects in different countries for ‘the sake of one night applause.’
According to him, the consequences of dictatorship are already evident, reflected in the arrests of government opponents.
‘The almost complete lack of free press, coercion and huge corruption will be felt with double force in parallel with the reduction of petrodollars. I do not think anyone doubts this," Sargsyan said.
The president added that he decided to speak on this subject after the authorities of Azerbaijan, instead of solving their own problems are trying to teach Armenian authorities spreading nasty rumors about the Armenian people. -0-
