Armenian prime minister to spearhead campaign for constitutional reforms

Armenian prime minister Hovik Abrahamyan did not rule out today the likelihood of being appointed to spearhead the campaign for constitutional reforms, to be put to a referendum, slated for December 6 this year.
YEREVAN, October 16. / ARKA /. Armenian prime minister Hovik Abrahamyan did not rule out today the likelihood of being appointed to spearhead the campaign for constitutional reforms, to be put to a referendum, slated for December 6 this year.
Asked by journalists who would lead the campaign for "yes" to constitutional reforms Abrahamyan said that this issue would be discussed in the near future at a meeting of the governing Republican Party of Armenia.
"Next week this issue will be discussed at a meeting of the party, and we will make a decision. That I will take part in this process is out of question", Abrahamyan said. He added that his involvement in the campaign should not affect the work of his government.
The package of reforms, which introduce a plan to change the governance system of the country from the so-called semi-presidential to parliamentary republic, was backed by a vote of 104 to 10 and 3 abstentions in Armenia’s National Assembly on October 5.-0-
