Armenian prosecutor general suggests that Russia and other CIS countries rule out illegal search for Armenian officials wanted by Azerbaijan

YEREVAN, January 13. /ARKA/. Armenian Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan met on Wednesday with Russian Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov in Moscow, the Office of Prosecutor General of Armenia reported.

It said the chief prosecutors expressed mutual satisfaction with the high level of cooperation between their agencies indicating their readiness to deepen it in accordance with the spirit of strategic alliance and friendship between the two countries.

They noted that the current legal framework provides the necessary conditions for protecting the rights of Russian and Armenian citizens in both countries and increasing the effectiveness of the joint fight against international crime.

The two men discussed a wide range of issues of mutual legal assistance, partnerships in the field of extradition, as well as other issues of mutual interest.

Davtyan suggested that Russia and other CIS countries rule out illegal search of former and current officials of Armenia on the territory of the CIS on the basis of unjustified criminal prosecutions initiated by the authorized bodies of Azerbaijan.

The parties also spoke about Russian prosecutors performing official duties now in Artsakh as part of the Russian peacekeeping mission there, as well as the procedure for their interaction with law enforcement agencies of Armenia.

Davtyan stressed that the deployment of the Russian peacekeeping forces in Karabakh has significantly increased security guarantees, created the basis for strengthening stability on the contact line.
Following the meeting, Davtyan and Krasnov signed a cooperation program between their agencies for 2021-2022.

On January 12, at the initiative of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov, a trilateral meeting was held with the participation of Prosecutors Generals of Armenia and Azerbaijan Artur Davtyan and Kamran Aliyev. The purpose of the meeting was to establish further contacts in the field of international law, discuss the necessary conditions, as well as a number of current issues. -0-
