Armenian, Saudi Arabian foreign ministers exchanged views on establishing relations

Armenian, Saudi Arabian foreign ministers exchanged views on establishing relations

YEREVAN, February 19, /ARKA/. On February 19, Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

Armenian Foreign Ministry said the two men exchanged views on the perspectives of establishing relations and cooperation between Armenia and Saudi Arabia, expressing their readiness to undertake steps for the formation of bilateral and multilateral agendas between the two countries.

Ararat Mirzoyan expressed conviction upon the reciprocal potential for the development of cooperation in the fields of information and high technologies, health care, tourism, and culture.

During the meeting, the Foreign Ministers emphasized the importance of promoting trade and economic ties, implementing investment programs, and establishing contacts between the business circles. 

About Armenian-Saudi relations 

Armenia and Saudi Arabia have no diplomatic relations. Armenia’s National Statistical Committee provides no information about the trade between the two countries.

Last autumn President Armen Sarkissian (served as president from April 9, 2018 to January 23, 2022) was the first Armenian official to make an official visit to Saudi Arabia, which was described as ‘historic.’

As part of his visit, Sarkissian had a meeting with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of the Kingdom and spoke about the need to develop relations between Armenia and Saudi Arabia based ‘on rich historical ties between the two peoples.’ -0-
