Artsakh President: Pan-Armenian consensus needed for return to the homeland
YEREVAN, September 19. /ARКА/. The Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) issue remains unresolved as long as the people of Artsakh are without their homeland, stated Artsakh Republic President Samvel Shahramanyan during a press conference.
On September 19-20, 2023, Azerbaijan initiated a military offensive against Artsakh, employing artillery, UAVs, and combat aircraft.
"The return of the Artsakh people to their homeland is a matter that transcends their individual concerns. It is a pan-Armenian issue. We anticipate reaching a consensus on this matter, which has yet to be achieved. We are confident that, eventually, the events that transpired will be appropriately evaluated," Shahramanyan remarked.
He also mentioned that he is legally contesting the inaccuracies found in Armenian history textbooks.
Shahramanyan previously lodged a lawsuit against the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia, along with Nzhdeh Hovsepyan, the author of a 9th-grade Armenian history textbook. He requests that the defendants disprove the claims made under the subheading "Dearmenization of Nagorno-Karabakh," which asserts that "the president signed a decree dissolving the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic." He emphasized that no such decree was ever issued. The intent behind this statement was to facilitate the reopening of the route connecting Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh and to avert potential massacres of the local population.
"This does not accurately represent the situation. Our objective is to ensure that future generations are provided with accurate information. During the trial, we will present all necessary evidence to substantiate our claims," Shakhramanyan stated.
He refrained from responding to the inquiry regarding whether Artsakh could have survived two years prior had adequate assistance been rendered. He noted that there has been no advancement concerning the release of Armenian prisoners, the reburial of the remains of the 66 individuals who lost their lives during the 2023 aggression, or the clarification of the whereabouts of those who are missing.
Shahramanyan affirmed that he had been in communication with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during that period and sought to align his actions with the prime minister. He also remarked on the prime minister's assertion that, despite the loss of Artsakh, the statehood of Armenia remained intact.
"The citizens of Artsakh made the ultimate sacrifice for the Republic of Armenia to be present today," Shahramanyan stated.-0-
