Artsakh authorities accept Russian peacekeepers’ ceasefire proposal

YEREVAN, September 20. /ARKA/. Nagorno-Karabakh authorities have accepted the proposal of the command of the Russian peacekeeping contingent on ceasefire, the Information Center of Nagorno-Karabakh reported.

"Since September 19, the Republic of Azerbaijan, along with massive rocket-artillery and air strikes, has shifted to large-scale attacks along the entire line of contact with the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh). The analysis of the actions of the Azerbaijani armed forces shows that the objective is to divide Artsakh and cause irreparable damage to its viability. During two days of persistent fighting, the units of the Artsakh armed forces heroically defended themselves against the enemy, which was several times superior in manpower and military equipment, inflicting on it heavy losses.

Unfortunately, the Artsakh side also has casualties and wounded, and in some areas, the enemy managed to break through to the combat positions of the Defense Army, to take control of a number of heights and strategic road junctions. In the current situation, the actions of the international community towards ending the war and settling the situation are insufficient.

Taking all this into account, the authorities of the Republic of Artsakh accept the proposal of the command of the Russian contingent for a ceasefire," the Information Center reported.

In a related development Russian President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov was quoted by Tass news agency as saying that Moscow and Yerevan were arranging a telephone conversation between Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

"As soon as this conversation takes place, we will inform you," Peskov said. -0-
