Artsakh parliament elects Samvel Shahramanyan as president
YEREVAN, September 9. /ARKA/. By a vote of 22 to 1 the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) National Assembly elected Samvel Shahramanyan as president at an extraordinary session on Saturday, Artsakhpress news agency reported.
Shahramanyan was the only candidate for the post nominated by the Free Homeland, Justice, ARF /Dashnaktsutyun and Democratic Party of Artsakh parties.
The United Homeland party had nominated ex-defense minister Samvel Babayan. However, its application was rejected as Babayan failed to provide a certificate of Nagorno-Karabakh citizenship for the last ten years as well as a certificate of permanent residence on the territory of Artsakh for the last ten years.
The position became vacant after ex-president Arayik Harutyunyan resigned on September 1.
Samvel Shahramanyan was born in 1978 in Stepanakert. In 1999 he graduated from Artsakh State University's Economics Department.
He worked for the Artsakh National Security Service, Tax Service, Police, as Chief Enforcement Officer.
On January 16, 2023 he was appointed Secretary of the Security Council of Artsakh. On August 31 this year he was appointed State Minister. He is non-partisan, married, has three children. -0-
