As an OSCE chairing country Switzerland will make all efforts to improve the political dialogue between the countries of the South Caucasus and strengthen measures to increase confidence in the region, Swiss Foreign Minister Didier Burkhalter said at a special meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council on Tuesday, when outlining the priorities of Switzerland’s chairmanship of the OSCE in 2014.

As an OSCE chairing country Switzerland will make all efforts to improve the political dialogue between the countries of the South Caucasus and strengthen measures to increase confidence in the region, Swiss Foreign Minister Didier Burkhalter said at a special meeting of the OSCE Permanent Council on Tuesday, when outlining the priorities of Switzerland’s chairmanship of the OSCE in 2014.
The Minister noted that they would provide comprehensive support to the activity of the OSCE Minsk Group and Geneva dialogue and encourage them to put forward new ideas on the resolution of conflicts.
Burkhalter said another priority for Switzerland is modernization of the Vienna Document.
"After important technical updating of the Vienna Document in 2011 we need to make significant steps towards the establishment of safety standards that meet today's climate," he said, adding that there is also a need for new ideas regarding arms control in Europe.
He concluded by saying that Switzerland will support the OSCE's role as a place for exchange of ideas and opinions. -0-
