YEREVAN, October 2. /ARKA/. Azerbaijan's armed forces shelled the town of  Martuni in Nagorno-Karabakh on October 1, killing 4 civilians and wounding another 11, Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Ombudsman Artak Beglaryan said, calling it a war crime.

According to the press service of the Ombudsman, two reporters for the French Le Monde were among the wounded.  A cameraman with the Armenia TV channel and a reporter with the Armenian 24News outlet also sustained injuries in the Martuni shelling.

French President Emmanuel Macron told reporters  in Brussels that a plane was ready to repatriate the two injured French journalists.

"According to verified information, Azerbaijan deliberately targeted and shelled civilian structures  in the center of Martuni using the  Grad multiple launch rocket system," the ombudsman's office said.

The Artsakh Human Rights Defender strongly condemned the attacks  on civilian settlements, infrastructure and journalists and called on the international community to give an appropriate assessment of the war crimes committed by Azerbaijan.

The Ombudsman called on international human rights organizations to organize an urgent visit to Artsakh in order to carry out on the spot a mission to collect data and prevent threats to the life and health of the people of Artsakh. According to Beglaryan, 11 civilians have been killed by Azerbaijan in Artsakh since September 27 and another 60 wounded. -0-
