YEREVAN, July 14. /ARKA/. Armenian political analyst and expert in Azerbaijani affairs Anzhela Elibegova said today that clashes between Armenian and Azerbaijani troops along their northern border that have been continuing for three consecutive days are unlikely to translate into a large-scale conflict.
Speaking at the “Special Opinion” program on Novosti-Armenia news agency's youtube channel, she said Azerbaijan will continue its provocations because of being disposed to take revenge and will not easily accept the losses.
She said this was also confirmed by president of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. 'Therefore, we must be prepared and watch out for provocations that may resume with renewed vigor," she said.
According to her, the clashes were a test of the combat readiness of the Armed Forces of Armenia.
"Azeris are retreating purely for tactical rearrangement in order to change their tactics. They will be constantly trying to look for weak spots on our side," Elibegova said.
She also noted that this is “also a check of the rear” of Armenia and a test of opportunities in the field of cybersecurity.
When asked whether the provocations against the Armenian region of Tavush were an attempt to divert attention from the future actions against Artsakh, Elibegova said she doubted that such actions may go unnoticed.
"When tension aggravated in Tavush, our troops in Artsakh have radically increased their vigilance," said Elibegova.
The fighting between Armenia and Azerbaijan broke out on July 12 as Azerbaijani troops made two attempts to seize an Armenian outpost in the northern section of the border with Azerbaijan. -0-
