YEREVAN, August 26. /ARKA/. Armenia’s human rights defender Arman Tatoyan said today that apart from blocking the Karmrakar-Shurnukh section of the Kapan-Goris road in the southeastern region of Syunik on August 25, Azerbaijani troops have blocked a section of the road that runs from Goris to Vorotan rural community.

Tatoyan said he had double-checked the reports from Vorotan after receiving the first reports from local residents.

"This is an interstate road that ensures the normal movement of the civilian population of the Republic of Armenia and the lives of people depend on its normal operation,’ Tatoyan said in a Facebook post.

‘These criminal actions of Azerbaijani troops violate the right of people to free movement and completely disrupt their normal life. The very presence of Azerbaijani troops on these roads is a violation of the right to life and other vital rights guaranteed by the international community,’ the ombudsman said.

After the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan signed a statement on the cessation of all hostilities in Artsakh on November 9, 2020 more than 190 settlements in Nagorno-Karabakh and adjacent seven districts were placed under the control of Azerbaijan.

As a result, the borders of the Syunik region in the south of Armenia (including the administrative center Kapan) appeared to be in close proximity to the new borders of Azerbaijan, drawn during the Soviet time. -0-
