YEREVAN, April 23. /ARKA/. Baku periodically takes actions that may lead to a new escalation. This was stated at a press briefing on Wednesday by Vahagn Aleksanyan, a member of parliament from the ruling Civil Contract faction, commenting on the shelling of Armenian settlements by Azerbaijan.

"However, the Armenian side is taking measures to prevent the situation from escalating. We realize that tension or possible escalation depends not only on Baku's wishes, but also on our ability to contain the developments," Aleksanyan said.

According to him, Armenia is guided by the principle of responsibility for stability and security in the region.

"We are ready to bear this responsibility and are doing everything possible to prevent a new war," Aleksanyan said.

He could not answer why Azerbaijan is trying to escalate the situation by resorting to shelling.-0-
