YEREVAN, April 17. /ARKA/. Edmon Marukyan, the leader of the Bright Armenia parliamentary faction, said today Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan should fire Finance Minister Atom Janjughazyan.
Speaking at a parliament discussion on changes and amendments to the law "On the structure of the government," Marukyan said his faction had sent a written request to the government asking to specify the number of employees who are to be laid off as a result of the government’s plan to cut the number of ministries.
"If it is you who is dealing with this issue , then the Prime Minister must sack you, ‘Marukyan told the finance minister.
Marukyan was dissatisfied with the response to their request, which he said lacks exact idea of the scope of the optimization of the government. He said no answer to this question was given during today’s discussion either.
’The argument that the process has just begun is not convincing. These reforms were announced on May 8, the process started, and now we have government bodies without heads and ministries without ministers. There is a complete chaos," Marukyan said.
On March 7 the Cabinet approved its new structure. According to a relevant draft law, which is yet to be approved by the parliament, the government is be composed of 12 ministries instead of the current 17. Under the bill, the Ministry of Culture and Sports is to be merged with the Ministry of Science and Education and called the Ministry of Science, Education, Culture and Sport.
The Ministry of Agriculture is to be merged with the Ministry of Economic Development and Investments and have a new name, not determined yet.
The Ministry of Energy Infrastructures and Natural Resources is to become part of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Development, which is to also oversee transport, water, civil aviation and state property management.
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology is to be divided and some of its functions are to be transferred to the Ministry of Territorial Administration. The ministry is to l oversee the high-tech sector, including digitization and the military-industrial complex.
