YEREVAN, December 7. /ARKA/. Armenia is in a political, social, economic and military crisis that came after the coronavirus crisis, the leader of the opposition Bright Armenia party Edmon Marukyan said on Monday during parliamentary hearings, his party organized to look for ways out.

The ruling My Step alliance of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan refused to participate.

Marukyan unveiled a 13-point “road map” his party designed to overcome the crises. According to Marukyan, Prime Minister Pashinyan, who is now associated by the citizens with the defeat of the war in Nagorno-Karabakh, must step down.

This is to be followed by election of a new prime minister by the parliament. Then, a transitional government is to be formed comprising people who have succeeded in their fields. The new government will need to strengthen the Armenian-Russian relations.

Then, it must initiate negotiations on the vague provisions of the statement signed between Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia on November 9 to stop the war in order.  This is to be followed by the resumption of negotiations under the aegis of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs on the final consolidation of Artsakh's right to self-determination.

Among the priorities are also the exchange of prisoners and bodies of dead soldiers as well as border demarcation between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The next step is to be consolidation of the potential of Armenia-Artsakh-Diaspora, stabilization of the internal situation, restoration of public solidarity, elimination of calls for violence and rhetoric of hatred. The new government will need to restore and strengthen state institutions with the focus on law enforcement agencies and restoration of public security.

It will need also to address the needs of the families of killed, wounded, captured, missing servicemen and civilians and their families. Then to address solution of the social needs of the Armenians of Artsakh (including refugees).

The new government will need also to organize an international donor conference with the participation of the USA, China, Russia, EU countries, Iran and Arab countries to attract at least $1 billion to restore the damages.

The government will need also to reconsider the work of the Armenian diplomatic missions by placing the stress on a proactive foreign policy with allied and other states.  Later, it will need to develop a national long-term program of economic and military reconstruction. And finally to conduct new parliamentary elections.

In support of this statement, Marukyan said that the current government's program no longer corresponds to the tasks that need to be solved after the war.

“These are the steps that need to be made and whoever is the prime minister of the transition period will have to take these steps. It is clear that one political force will not be able to carry out this, therefore, general consolidation is needed,” Marukyan said. -0-
