YEREVAN, July 17. /ARKA/. A group of children joined today a protest rally outside the UN Office in Armenia to demand that Azerbaijan unblock the Lachin corridor, the only road linking Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia and the rest of the word that has been blocked by Azerbaijan since December 2022.

Larisa Alaverdyan, the head of an NGO called Against Legal Arbitrariness, stated that the protesters demand that the UN realize the just demands of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) residents.

She called on UN to implement all those "beautifully written wordings that are placed on its official website," including those related to children's rights.

"We demand that the international community not limit itself to statements only, but take action, in particular, impose sanctions against those who implement genocidal policies," she said, referring to Azerbaijan's genocidal policy against Artsakh Armenians.

Alaverdyan and two other protesters then went to meet with representatives of the UN office in Yerevan.

Since Friday morning, thousands of Nagorno-Karabakh ethnic Armenians have been rallying in a central square in the capital Stepanakert to demand the reopening of the Lachin corridor, which is the only road linking it with Armenia. The road has been blocked by Azerbaijan since last December.

The protesters also urged Moscow to ensure free movement through the road. Azerbaijan later allowed the Red Cross to resume medical evacuations from Karabakh to Armenia.

The activists of the movement who set up camps in a Stepanakert square said they would stay in the square until the corridor is reopened. -0-
