YEREVAN, August 15. /ARKA/ An Armenian political analyst, Levon Shirinyan, announced today plans to set up a political party, to be called the Christian-Democratic Party of Armenia. Speaking at a news conference he said the constituent meeting is scheduled for mid-September.
"We decided to consolidate the results of the" velvet "revolution and create a party based on common Christian morality and democratic values. The creation of the new party is dictated by the desire to prevent a new stagnation," he said.
Shirinyan said the party will be center-right with the elements of socialism and conservatism ‘to protect the interests of broad sections of the population.’
"Armenia is the first Christian nation, and there is a need to create a party that will be guided by Christian morality and protect the interests of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the spiritual heritage of our people,’ he said, adding that the party will be purely secular and will have no connection with religion.
Shirinyan said that the party will promote the policy of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's Cabinet, but in all probability, will participate in the coming extraordinary parliamentary elections separately.
"If we deserve the people's trust, then we will go to parliament, but if we fail, we will start preparing a new cultural, ideological and political revolution," he said.
Asked why not unite with the Christian Democratic Union of Armenia of MP Khosrov Harutyunyan, Shirinyan noted that there are radical differences between them, including moral ones.
"We are not establishing a" pocket "party or the one-man party. We differ in all aspects. Our ideological base is the morality of the Armenian Apostolic Church. And we are not going to cooperate with those who are mired in corruption," he said. -0-
