YEREVAN, June 30. /ARKA/. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan announced the start of consultations between Armenia and the EU in the field of security and defense.

“This is a decisive step to bring our cooperation in line with modern challenges and to make additional efforts to overcome them,” Mirzoyan said at a joint press conference with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas in Yerevan on Monday.

According to him, the relations between Armenia and the EU have never been as comprehensive and close as they are now.

“Significant achievements were recorded during the talks with Kallas. An agreement on Armenia’s participation in the EU crisis management actions was recently signed, which is a clear example of the willingness of both sides to expand the Armenia-EU partnership agenda,” Mirzoyan said.

The Foreign Minister stressed that this simultaneously demonstrates Armenia's aspiration and desire to make a constructive contribution to global security, world stability and the peace process.

Mirzoyan stated that during the talks, the importance of the activities of the EU observer mission in Armenia and the provision of support to Armenia within the framework of the European Peace Instrument were noted.

"Armenia and the European Union have also successfully completed negotiations on the new partnership agenda. This is an ambitious document that will open up new avenues of cooperation and deepen the bilateral agenda between Armenia and the EU," Mirzoyan said.
