YEREVAN, June 19. /ARKA/. Billionaire, philanthropist, president of "Tashir Group" Samvel Karapetyan has been arrested for two months by a court decision.

"The court announced the decision on the preventive measure against businessman Samvel Karapetyan, satisfying the petition of the Investigative Committee. A decision was made to arrest him for two months," the Public Television of Armenia reports.

As previously reported, the Investigative Committee submitted a petition to the court to arrest Karapetyan.

In his message regarding the court's decision, Karapetyan stated that, "unfortunately, the court has become a clear example for our people, living with hope for the law and the rule of law, proving that it is still not capable of acting independently, for the sake of justice and without instructions "from above."

"Illegal arrest, fabricated charges will not break me or force me to change my principles. I will always support my people, the Holy Armenian Apostolic Church, I have not spared and will not spare my strength and energy for the sake of improving the life of the Motherland and the Armenians, building a prosperous and secure future,” Karapetyan noted.

On the criminal prosecution of Samvel Karapetyan

Billionaire and philanthropist Samvel Karapetyan visited the Catholicos of All Armenians in Echmiadzin in connection with the attacks of the Armenian authorities on the AAC and the clergy and expressed his support to the Patriarch. He stated that the current unacceptable situation will be resolved through the participation of politicians. “If the politicians fail, then we will take part in this in our own way,” Karapetyan said.

After this, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan wrote several harsh posts on social networks regarding Karapetyan. Information appeared about a search of Karapetyan’s Yerevan mansion and the detention of more than 40 people. A large crowd of citizens gathered outside his home to show their support for Karapetyan.

He was detained by security forces in his Yerevan mansion and transported to the Investigative Committee. As part of the criminal case, he was charged with "public calls to seize power."
