Opposition MP Artur Sargsyan arrested for two months

YEREVAN, July 10. /ARKA/. Following a protracted hearing, a court of general jurisdiction in Yerevan ruled Wednesday to allow the arrest of an opposition MP Artur Sargsyan for two months.
His lawyer, Smbat Minasyan, said he intends to challenge the arrest decision within the 10-day period established by law.
The day before, Armenian parliamentarians agreed to strip Sargsyan of his parliamentary immunity and initiate a criminal prosecution against him in accordance with a motion by the Armenian Prosecutor General.
Sargsyan is accused of planning terrorist attacks and attempting to seize power in Armenia with other members of the Sacred Struggle movement, led by Bagrat (Vazgen) Galstanyan, from November 2024 to March 14, 2025.
According to the Prosecutor General, the group was preparing mass riots, collecting materials for sabotage, and forming strike groups. However, they were identified and stopped by the National Security Service while still in the preparation stage.-0-
