Courts in Armenia's capital Yerevan have allowed law-enforcement authorities to arrest 26 people on charges of participating in mass unrest, calls for violence and overthrowing of the government, Armenian Investigative Committee reported.

YEREVAN, September 24. /ARKA/. Courts in Armenia's capital Yerevan have allowed law-enforcement authorities to arrest 26 people on charges of participating in mass unrest, calls for violence and overthrowing of the government, Armenian Investigative Committee reported.

It said criminal proceedings were initiated against 49 participants of mass protests in Yerevan that started on September 19.

Thirty-nine protesters are charged with participation in mass unrest, 4 with for public calls to mass riots, 2 with hooliganism in a group. The law-enforcers have asked courts to allow the arrest of 39 persons.

Protests erupted in the Armenian capital Yerevan on Tuesday, September 19, after Azerbaijani troops launched a military offensive into Nagorno-Karabakh. Crowds have been gathering outside government buildings demanding the resignation of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashninian after he said Armenia would not take military action against Azerbaijan over the attacks.

During clashes with law enforcement forces, several dozen people were taken to medical facilities with injuries. -0-
