CSTO General Secretary: Armenia still member
YEREVAN, June 21. /ARKA/. The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), a Russian-led military bloc, upholds all obligations towards Armenia, Imangali Tasmagambetov, the General Secretary of the alliance, said on Friday.
“Armenia remains our CSTO ally. It is Armenia’s sovereign right to choose whether to continue being a member of the alliance,” he stated during the Council of CSTO Foreign Ministers.
Tasmagambetov also said he hopes Yerevan will “clarify the situation” regarding Armenia’s membership and make the respective decision.
Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan recently stated that Armenia might seek formal exit from the CSTO. Dmitry Peskov, Vladimir Putin’s spokesman, later said he hopes Russia and Armenia will remain allies and partners.
