YEREVAN, May 4. /ARKA/. The Armenian Revolutionary Federation/Dashnaktsutyun that quit the government coalition with the Republican Party of Armenia on April 25 and announced its support to opposition protests, said today it has expelled the party’s parliamentary faction secretary Aghvan Vardanyan from the party ranks.
The decision was made by Dashnaktsutyun Supreme Body in Armenia. Yesterday Vardanyan tendered an application to resign as a Dashnaktsutyun MP.
The expulsion decision was prompted by Vardanyan’s decision to vote against the candidacy of protest leader Nikol Pashinyan for prime minister in the May 1 vote.
The Armenian National Assembly will convene for another extraordinary meeting on May 8 to elect next prime minister. Under the Armenian constitution, it will be automatically disbanded and fresh elections will be called if it again fails to choose a premier. -0-
