YEREVAN, January 30. /ARKA/. Armenia is ranked 120th in the Democracy Index 2016, an annual report on the state of democracy in the world, released by The Economist Intelligence Unit, a sister publication of The Economist.
Experts put Armenia in the list of countries with authoritarian regimes. According to the index, the level of democracy in the country is estimated at 3.88 points out of 10, which is by 0.12 points lower than in the 2015 index.
Armenia is behind Georgia (78th), Turkey (97th) and Kyrgyzstan (98th) but is ahead of Belarus (127th) , Russia (134th) Kazakhstan (139th), Azerbaijan (148th) and Iran (154th).
Norway topped the 20 countries labeled as full democracies, scoring 9.93 points while North Korea was the worst with a score of 1.08 points. According to the index, the number of "full democracies" in the world has decreased from 20 in 2015 to 19 in 2016 — and the one missing is the United States of America. The group said the U.S. was downgraded due to "a further erosion of trust in government and elected officials there.". –0-
