YEREVAN, January 6. /ARKA/. On January 4, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) upheld another application of Armenia regarding the Armenian prisoners of war and abducted civilians, held in Azerbaijan, applying an interim measure against Azerbaijan demanding that it provide information in due time, Armenia's representative to the ECHR said in a Facebook post.
“At the same time, in view of the openly dismissive attitude of the Azerbaijani authorities to the legal processes and, especially, to the decisions of the ECHR, as well as numerous violations of the deadlines set in the decisions of the ECHR, and the latest statements by the President of Azerbaijan, on January 3 and 5 Armenian applied to the European Court with a demand that the issue of Azerbaijani violations be referred to the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on the basis of provision 39 §2 of the Court,” the Armenian representative said.
Taking into account the importance of the processes concerning prisoners of war and abducted civilians, and the extreme delicacy of this issue, the Armenian side again urged everyone that they refrain from publishing the names of these persons of war and / or other identification data on social networks.
On December 28 another four Armenian prisoners of war were repatriated with the mediation of Russia and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
Earlier, the commander of the Russian peacekeeping contingent, Lieutenant-General Rustam Muradov said that the official Baku confirmed the reports that 62 Armenians were captured in Khtsaberd (Hadrut region of Artsakh). Armenian MPs Nazeli Baghdasaryan and Sofia Hovsepyan provided Rustamov with the list of prisoners by name for conveying to the Azerbaijani side.
On December 14, some 44 Armenian prisoners of war and other captivates were brought home by a Russian military plane from Azerbaijan and 12 Azerbaijani citizens were flown to Baku.
Armenia and Azerbaijan earlier agreed to "all for all" swap of POWs. The exact data on the number of Armenians captives or soldiers gone missing during the war in Artsakh is not known. -0-
