EU seeks to deepen cooperation with Armenia: Ambassador Maragos on new partnership program

YEREVAN, April 4. /ARKA/. The European Union seeks to deepen cooperation with Armenia, Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Vasilis Maragos said today, speaking at hearings on "New Prospects and Challenges of Armenia's European Integration" in the National Assembly.

According to him, the new cooperation agenda is dedicated to this goal, the elaboration of which, based on the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA), was launched in February and is aimed at updating the existing agenda.

According to the diplomat, priorities for joint work will be identified, which will allow achieving the goals of the CEPA agreement faster and understanding what more can be done.

According to Maragos, this work takes into account a number of elements such as - human rights and democracy, foreign policy and security, economic cooperation, as well as energy, trade and economic diversification, infrastructure and more.

"Work is underway in all directions. Both the EU and Armenia agree that our relations have never developed so dynamically," the diplomat emphasized.

Maragos noted that at the moment it is extremely important that the CEPA agreement be fully implemented, especially in terms of standards and bringing them in line with international norms.

"Fulfilling these standards is the main task, but it will lead to the fact that Armenia's economy will develop," the ambassador said.

He also recalled that 550 million euros were provided to Armenia within the framework of the EU assistance program. Out of them 120 million euros were directed to the realization of more than 35 projects in Syunik region of Armenia (investments in infrastructure, development of civil society, increase of employment and transition to "green economy"). --0--
