Five parties and four blocs to race for seats in Armenian National Assembly

Five parties and four blocs have already applied for running in Armenia’s parliamentary elections.

YEREVAN, February 17. /ARKA/. Five parties and four blocs have already applied for running in Armenia’s parliamentary elections.
The ruling Republican Party of Armenia will run with the following candidates: Vigen Sargsyan, defense minister, Taron Margaryan, Yerevan mayor, and Arpine Hovhannisyan, justice minister, are topping the party’s list.
Communists will race with Tachat Sargsyan, Vazgen Safaryan and Gagik Manukyan atop its list.
The to three figures in Armenian Revolutionary Federation /Dashnaktsutiun party’s list are Armen Rustamyan and Aghvan Vardanyan, who are the head and the secretary of the party’s faction in the parliament respectively, as well as David Lokyan, territorial administration minister.
The Free Democrats Party is launching its election campaign with Khachatur Kokobelyan, the party leader, Hrant Bagratyan, former prime minister, and Styopa Safaryan, former member of the National Assembly.
The list of Armenian Renaissance (former Orinats Yerkir) is topped by its leader Artur Bagdasaryan, a former parliament speaker and a former national security secretary, Mher Shahgeldyan and Heghine Bisharyan, both the party’s MPs.
YELQ (way out) alliance members have elected Edmon Marukyan, head of Lusavor Hayastan (luminous Armenia) party, Aram Sargsyan, the head of The Republic party’s board, and Nikol Pashinyan, the Civil Contract party leader as top candidates in their bloc’s list.
Levon Ter-Petrosyan is number one in the list of the elections alliance between the Armenian National Congress and the People’s Party of Armenia. He is followed by Stepan Demirchyan, the head of the People’s Party of Armenia, and Levon Zurabyan, head of the Armenian National Congress’ faction in the National Assembly.
Seyran Ohanyan, who just recently was dismissed as defense minister, Vardan Oskanian, who was former president Robert Kocharyan’s foreign minister, and Armen Martirosyan, deputy chairman of Heritage party led by former foreign minister Raffi Hovhannisyan, are the first three candidates of the Ohanyan-Raffi-Oskanian alliance.
Tsarukyan bloc’s top candidates are entrepreneur Gagik Tsarukyan, Ishkhan Zakaryan, former chairman of the Armenian Control Chamber, and MP Naira Zohrabyan.
The Central Electoral Commission will complete considering the applications on February 26.
Election campaigns will be launched on March 1 and last until March 30.
