Food deliveryman dies in Yerevan hospital

Artur Sargsyan, a man who broke through a police cordon to ferry food to members of an armed group who seized a police station in Yerevan last July and who was accused of complicity in that crime, died on Thursday in a Yerevan hospital.

Artur Sargsyan, a man who broke through a police cordon to ferry food to members of an armed group who seized a police station in Yerevan last July and who was accused of complicity in that crime, died on Thursday in a Yerevan hospital. The death was confirmed by Armenia Medical Center and Armenian Ministry of Health.
Sargsyan was held at the convicts’ hospital after he had gone on hunger strike before he was moved to Armenia Medical Center for intensive treatment.
In July, Artur Sargsyan broke trough the police cordon with his own truck loaded with food to deliver it to the members of the armed group.
Eventually, the armed group surrendered after a two-week standoff that left three police officers dead and several wounded on both sides. The gunmen were arrested, including also Artur Sargsyan.
In later December, 2016 he was released on bail, but in February he was again taken into custody for violation of the procedures established for this preventive measure. After the second arrest, Sargsyan announced a hunger strike, which deteriorated sharply his death.
Artur Sargsyan was released later under the personal guarantee of a group of parliamentarians on March 6 and was taken to Armenia Medical Center for treatment. -0-
