Former Armenian parliament chairman involved in criminal case as suspect

Former chairman of Armenia's National Assembly Ara Babloyan has been involved in a criminal case as a suspect, a source in the Special Investigation Service (SIS) told Novosti Armenia news agency.

YEREVAN, October 22. /ARKA/. Former chairman of Armenia's National Assembly Ara Babloyan has been involved in a criminal case as a suspect, a source in the Special Investigation Service (SIS) told Novosti Armenia news agency.
At the same time, according to tert.am, Babloyan is being suspected of usurping the powers of the Constitutional Court during the preliminary investigation into a criminal case instituted on Tuesday by the Special Investigation Service under Part 1 of Article 300 (Usurpation of State Power) of the Criminal Code of Armenia.
On October 21, former deputy chief of staff of the National Assembly Arsen Babayan was detained on suspicion of forgery. According to the Special Investigative Service, during the preliminary investigation of the criminal case instituted under Part 1 of Article 300 of the Criminal Code, evidence was obtained that when former chairman of the Constitutional Court Gagik Harutyunyan was resigning, some officials acting in personal interests, as well as with the help of employees who were not officials, committed official forgery.
Given that a new alleged crime has been uncovered, a new criminal case has been opened by the Special Investigation Service under Article 314 (official forgery) of the Criminal Code, which was combined with a criminal case on usurping power.
This case was initiated on the basis of a report made by a parliament member Arman Babajanyan. -0-
