YEREVAN, May 12. / ARKA /. French President Francois Hollande said today in Yerevan that Armenian authorities should think about how to combine Armenia’s association with EU with its impending membership in the Customs Union of Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus.
Hollande has arrived in Yerevan on Monday on a two-day state visit at the invitation of his Armenian counterpart Serzh Sargsyan.
"During the Vilnius summit of the Eastern Partnership (in November 2013) you spoke about your determination to draw Armenia closer to Europe, but I do not want you to choose between two possibilities. You have to think about how to organize an association with Europe, so it does not hamper your integration into the Customs Union,” Hollande said on Monday at the opening of the Armenian- French business forum in Yerevan.
He added that Armenia is connected with its region , but at the same time it wants to join the European values and in this regard it is important that European investments arrive in Armenia so that it could be at the forefront of not only political relations with Europe.
The French president said France understands the complexities facing the Armenian economy, in particular, because of the blockade. He said after the European Parliament elections (late May 2014), France will ask the European Commission to create more favorable conditions for Armenia.. -0-
