Georgia ready to help Armenia recover from flood
YEREVAN, 3 June. /ARKA/. Georgia is ready to help Armenia recover from the flood in the Lori and Tavush provinces, the Armenian Foreign Ministry reported on Monday.
Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan spoke with his Georgian counterpart Ilia Darchiashvili and briefed him on the consequences of the recent flood in northeastern Armenia and on the works that are underway in the disaster zone.
The two also discussed projects aimed at strengthening strategic cooperation between Armenia and Georgia.
Heavy rains flooded Armenia’s northeastern provinces Lori and Tavush on 25 and 26 May, causing the Debed, Aghstev, and Tashir rivers to overflow their banks. As a result, portions of the railway and the freeway connecting Armenia with Georgia were destroyed. So far, the death toll stands at 4, and 443 individuals have been evacuated from the flooded area. A total of 300 million drams has been allocated for recovery efforts.
