Head of Yerevan Ajapnyak administrative district resigns

YEREVAN, June 23. /ARKA/. The head of Ajapnyak administrative district in Armenian capital city Yerevan Hayk Mheryan has resigned, the press secretary of the Municipality Hakob Karapetyan told Novosti-Armenia news agency.
The head of the district submitted his letter of resignation on June 21, the day after the early parliamentary elections.
According to Hakob Karapetyan, Mheryan's resignation is not connected with a gang that was building illegally kiosks in the district at night hours.
“I think Mr. Mheryan will tell you the reason. As far as I am informed, he is simply taking up another job,” he noted.
The Yerevan Municipality said today it has dismantled several structures, mainly kiosks, which had been built illegally at night hours in Ajapnyak and Shengavit administrative districts.
Earlier, Mayor Hayk Marutyan stated that an armed gang is operating in the Ajapnyak community comprising about 40-50 people, who were building kiosks without the permission of the mayor's office, threatening officials and law enforcement officers.
According to him, many persons from various state bodies, the judicial system, and neighborhood tough guys are involved in these schemes. - 0--
