YEREVAN, May 19. /ARKA/. Under a bill approved on May 18 by the government of Armenia, imports of Russian weapons will be exempted from VAT. According to the acting minister of finance Vardan Aramyan, the bill will apply exclusively to imports of Russia-manufactured defense weapons.

Earlier, Armenian defense minister Vigen Sargsyan stated that Armenia will continue the dialogue with Russia on the possibility of acquiring weapons.

It was reported that Armenia will purchase Smerch multiple rocket launchers and ammunition, Igla-S air defense missile systems, Avtobaz-M ground-based electronic intelligence systems, TOS-1A heavy flamethrower systems (Solntsepek ) with transport-charging machines, as well as guided missiles 9M113M, RPG-26 grenade launchers, Dragunov sniper rifles, Tiger armored vehicles, engineering facilities and communications equipment.

A Russian loan is being used by the Armenian side to finance up to 90% of the cost of each of the contracts for the delivery of weapons with settlements in Russian rubles. Advance payments make up at least 10% of the cost of each contract, according to Aramyan. -0-
