Independent Armenian lawmakers create Artsakh parliamentary initiative
YEREVAN, March 19. /ARKA/. Three independent female members of the Armenian parliament have created the 'Artsakh' (Nagorno-Karabakh) parliamentary initiative, and according to one of them- Taguhi Tovmasyan- they are going to become the voice of the Artsakh Republic.
Addressing an emergency parliament session, Tovmasyan said the idea wasp prompted by a visit to Artsakh together with two other independent deputies Anna Grigoryan and Sofia Hovsepyan.
She said although the initiative cannot be formalized legally as law bans it, nonetheless they are going to speak on behalf of Artsakh in the parliament until the early elections scheduled for June 20.
According to the deputy, earlier everyone believed that Armenia was the guarantor of the security of Artsakh, now one can say confidently that Artsakh is the guarantor of Armenia’s independence.
She noted that now after Armenian Gegharkunik and Syunik have become provinces bordering with Azerbaijan, everyone is realizing how far Artsakh would keep the enemy away from Armenia.
“We must understand the value of this, be guided by the priority task of ensuring our security. There are many problems, but the Artsakh issue seems to have been removed from our political agenda. We, for the most part have forgotten about it,' Tovmasyan said.
On September 27, 2020, Azerbaijani armed forces, backed by Turkey and foreign mercenaries and terrorists, attacked Nagorno-Karabakh along the entire front line using rocket and artillery weapons, heavy armored vehicles, military aircraft and prohibited types of weapons such as cluster bombs and phosphorus weapons.
After 44 days of the war, on November 9, the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a statement on the cessation of all hostilities. According to the document, the parties stopped at where they were at that time. The town of Shushi, the districts of Agdam, Kelbajar and Lachin were handed over to Azerbaijan, with the exception of a 5-kilometer corridor connecting Karabakh with Armenia.
A Russian peacekeeping contingent was deployed along the contact line in Karabakh and along the Lachin corridor. Internally displaced persons and refugees are returning to Karabakh and adjacent regions, prisoners of war, hostages and other detained persons and bodies of the dead are being exchanged.--0-
