Integration with Russia only way to security for South Caucasus nations: expert
YEREVAN, December 18. /ARKA/. It is possible to ensure stability in the region and development of Caucasus nations under current circumstances only as part of the Russian geopolitical project, senior staff scientist of the Russian Oriental Studies Institute Fasih Baderhan said at international conference entitled Security and Cooperation in the South Caucasus” in Yerevan.

Caucasus nations have always been choosing the best of a bad lot and it has always been Russia, the expert said.

According to Baderhan, the South Caucasus countries should come to conclusions from the experience of Arab countries, Novosti Armenia reports.

“Demographic explosion on the Earth is a problem, and there are no sufficient resources for everyone. The Western elites do understand it and are trying to suspend development in the East using Islamism as a tool for destroying nation-states”, the expert said.

Baderhan stressed Russia and China opposed this strategy and managed to partly reverse the situation.

“It is time to apply a new term, i.e. Western Issue. The events in the Muslim world demonstrate all problems would be solved in a faster and a better way without the West. It is a lesson for the Caucasus nations to learn”, the expert said.

The conference “Security and Cooperation in the South Caucasus” is taking place in Yerevan on December 18-20 discussing prospects for creating regional security systems in the South Caucasus, Iran-Turkey relations amid the Syrian crisis, consequences of the Eurasian integration for greater Near East and the current status of Karabakh peace process and settlement prospects.

The conference is held by PolitKontact NGO (Russia) and Noravank science and education fund (Armenia). –0--
