Karabakh president: alternative to November 9 statement were even greater human and territorial losses
YEREVAN, December 16. /ARKA/. In a live Facebook broadcast today Artsakh president Arayik Harutyunyan said the alternative to November 9 statement signed by the leaders of Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan to stop the war in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone were even greater human and territorial losses, 'up to the complete loss of the Motherland.'

According to him, there are two more major questions. The first is whether it was possible to end the war earlier with relatively better conditions and less losses, and the third question is whether it was possible to make the Armenian armed forces better prepared for the war.

“The answers to these questions are positive, but I will present the details another time,” said Harutyunyan.

According to Arayik Harutyunyan, the Artsakh authorities are doing everything possible to ensure the physical safety of the people. 'Ensuring the security of the citizens of Artsakh is the main priority of the government, because without a safe environment it is impossible to achieve success and development in other areas,' he said.

He said in this context it is quite obvious that citizens and authorities are most concerned with such issues as security and the lingering uncertainty. The president stressed that on the one hand, there is a line of contact with the Azerbaijani side, which has become longer as a result of the war by about two and a half times.

“In some areas, Azerbaijani military posts are very close to some of our settlements limiting our opportunities for communication with Armenia,” he said.

On the other hand, in his words, Artsakh has limited human and technical resources and  little time to strengthen the new front line, but  there are security guarantees of  the constant support of the entire Armenian people and Armenia and the presence of the peacekeeping troops of the Russian Federation.

“Now the Artsakh authorities are doing everything possible to neutralize the existing security challenges and clarify uncertainties within their powers and capabilities, some of which depend on the results of international negotiations at the highest level. Nevertheless, despite the objective difficulties, one thing is clear to us: the defense army, with the support of all Armenians, will continue its functions and efforts to ensure the physical security of the people of Artsakh, which are complemented by the guarantees of the Russian peacekeeping troops,” Harutyunyan said. -0-
