Armenian prime minister Karen Karapetyan has appointed today Karen Botoyan as governor of Gegharkunik province.
YEREVAN, May 25. /ARKA/. Armenian prime minister Karen Karapetyan has appointed today Karen Botoyan as governor of Gegharkunik province. The decision was announced at a regular Cabinet session.
Karen Botoyan was elected to Armenian parliament in April 2 parliamentary elections from the governing Republican Party of Armenia. Botoyan has abdicated his mandate to serve as governor.
Congratulating Botoyan on his appointment, the prime minister said he expects systemic changes in the work of provincial governors.
"We intend to organize special courses for governors at the American University of Armenia shortly, and we also agreed with the acting minister of territorial administration and development to review the assessment of the governors' work, so the governors will have both balanced rights and obligations, Karapetyan stressed.
Botoyan was a member of the previous parliament. He was a member of the Orinats Yerkir (now Armenian Renaissance) party. He replaces Rafik Grigoryan, who is now a member of parliament. -0-
