Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree on Thursday re-appointing Karen Karapetyan as prime minister.

YEREVAN, May 18. /ARKA/. Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree on Thursday re-appointing Karen Karapetyan as prime minister. 

Earlier today the president accepted the resignation of the government. After the April 2 parliamentary elections, a new parliament was formed  with the ruling Republican Party of Armenia having won 58 mandates. The Tsarukyan bloc won 31 seats, the Yelk bloc 8 seats and ARF Dashnaktsutyun -7 seats.

Karapetyan was born in 1963 in Stepanakert. In 1985 he graduated form Yerevan State University, Faculty of Applied Mathematics. From 1985 to 2010 he held various positions. In 2010 he was appointed mayor of Yerevan. From 2011 to 2016 he worked as first vice president of Russian Gazprombank. 

On September 13, 2016 he was appointed prime minister of Armenia. He is a member of the Republican Party of Armenia. Married, has three children. -0-
