Kopirkin: Russia is not leaving the South Caucasus

YEREVAN, June 13. /ARKA/. Russia is not only not leaving the South Caucasus, but is not weakening its attention to either the situation in the region or its relations with the Republic of Armenia, said Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Armenia Sergei Kopyrkin.

“The recent high-level visits that took place are a very important signal that Russia is not only not leaving the South Caucasus, but is not weakening its attention to either the situation in the region or its relations with the Republic of Armenia, as a fraternal and allied country,” Kopyrkin noted in an interview with Euromedia24.

The ambassador urged to look facts in the eye – geography, history, humanitarian factors, security issues, all this makes Russia an integral part of this entire regional alignment.

“How can Russia leave here? Of course, very difficult processes are currently taking place, and Russia is facing very serious, fateful challenges, but this in no way diminishes the importance of relations with Armenia for the Russian Federation. Here we really have a very large field for interaction, this is very important for us, in the vital interests of both the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation, so all this is speculation that Russia is leaving and then returning, this does not happen in big politics,” Kopyrkin said.

He officially stated that the South Caucasus is one of the priority areas of Russian foreign policy.

“This is recorded in the relevant program documents of the Russian Federation. Russia is taking and is ready to take all necessary actions to help ensure the sovereignty of Armenia, its territorial integrity, achieve normalization in relations with its neighbors, and much has already been done in this regard,” Kopyrkin emphasized.
