YEREVAN, May 6. /ARKA/. Armenian law-enforcement authorities have detained a man, identified as Armen Matevosian, who is suspected of bribing voters to vote in favor of Bargavach Hayastan (Prosperous Armenia) party.

Sona Truzian, a spokeswoman for the office of prosecutor general, said a criminal case was opened into these charges. She said after searching Matevosian’s bag the police officers found 380,000 drams. Another 128,000 drams were found in his pocket.

Truzian said two citizens who received bribes were identified. Investigators are working to track down others who might have as well received bribes.

Eight parties and one electoral bloc are vying for 131 seats in the National Assembly. Ninety of them are contested under the system of proportional representation of political forces. The remaining 41 seats will be distributed in nationwide single-mandate constituencies, with 137 individual candidates running for the parliament under the first-past-the-post system. To enter the National Assembly, political parties need to overcome the 5% threshold. The barrier for alliances is 7%. -0-
