YEREVAN, November 27./ARKA/. Lebanon has become a salvation lighthouse for thousands of Armenians, who lost their motherland, Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan said at the official dinner given on behalf of Lebanon’s President Michel Suleiman in honor of Mr. Sargsyan and his spouse.

“I deeply believe the Armenian and Lebanese nations are tied by something more than just friendship. At the hardest period for the Armenians, Lebanon became a salvation lighthouse for those, who had been deprived of their motherland,” Mr. Sargsyan said adding that the two nations had built brotherhood.

The head of Armenia expressed his gratitude for warm welcome on the hospitable land of Lebanon.

He also commended high level dialogue between the two states, partnership and bilateral readiness and willingness to develop and deepen the long-lasting cooperation.

Serzh Sargsyan wished Lebanon and its peoples peace, prosperity and unbreakable national unity.

Mr. Sargsyan also added the contacts between the two nations had been traced back to the ancient times, and the Armenians had been living in Lebanon for centuries.

“I think it is not accidental that it was in Lebanon two and a half centuries ago, when the first Armenian Catholic Catholicos was officially recognized by Pope. The Armenians have contributed to the struggle for freedom of Lebanon against the Ottoman Empire,” he added.

Lebanon is also a place that united a number of large spiritual, cultural, and education centers of the Armenians, which actually play a great role in preserving the national identity of Diaspora Armenians, he resumed -0-
