Memory of those perished during Azerbaijan's armed aggression a year ago honored at Yerablur military pantheon

YEREVAN, September 19 /ARKA/. The memory of those perished during the large-scale armed aggression of Azerbaijan against Artsakh a year ago - September 19-20, 2023 was honored at the Yerablur military pantheon in Yerevan today.

The Azerbaijani Armed Forces used artillery, UAVs and combat aircraft against Artsakh. Some 115 thousand of its residents were forced to leave their homeland and move to Armenia.

On September 28, following negotiations with the Azerbaijani side, Artsakh President Samvel Shahramanyan issued a decree to dissolve all state institutions. Republic of Artsakh ceased to exist from January 1, 2024.

Visit to Yerablur

On the occasion of the anniversary, Shahramanyan and former Artsakh government officials visited the Yerablur military pantheon and laid flowers at the graves of the fallen.

"September 19, 2023 will remain in our memory as the day when, as a result of a 10-month blockade, and then after a 4-month full siege, the Azerbaijani side resorted to military aggression, which brought deaths and injuries," Shahramanyan told reporters.

"Today we paid tribute to the memory of those who died, who defended our homeland and their families at the cost of their lives. The September events, the military actions, as well as the explosion that occurred at the fuel depot, which also killed hundreds of people and injured many, led to grave consequences. And as a result of the military actions, our population was forced to leave their homeland," noted Shahramanyan.

He also commented on the statements made by some Armenian officials that the people of Artsakh are guests in Armenia.

“We perceive with great pain such statements, including those made by high-ranking Armenian officials, who believe that we, the people of Artsakh, are guests in Armenia and that the recognition of the Artsakh Republic as part of Azerbaijan is a victory for Armenia,” said Shahramanyan.

Earlier, the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan stated that President of the Artsakh Republic as such does not exist any more. -0-
