Mirzoyan: Armenia may soon apply for EU membership
YEREVAN, October 20. /ARKA/. Armenia has a law requiring the government to seek EU membership, said Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.

"I can't say exactly when we'll submit the application. It could be next month, or it could be next year. It depends on many factors. So far, we've begun working with the EU, significantly deepening bilateral relations. We've begun the process of simplifying the visa regime. I think this process is progressing quite successfully," he said in an interview with DW.

Mirzoyan said that negotiations are underway on several new documents and that work on a new partnership program has been completed.

"It will be signed within the next three months at the latest. We see that Armenian citizens are demanding that we go even further. And we've seen some criticism from them about possible delays and lengthy internal procedures," he said.

Mirzoyan was unsure when visa-free travel with the EU would be established. "We could say between one and two years. A completely realistic timeframe," the Foreign Minister said.
