Mirzoyan touched upon the results of the meetings held in Washington on August 8, including the agreements reached on unblocking and developing regional communications, as well as on further work.
He emphasized that, as Armenia has repeatedly stated earlier, the Washington Declaration reflects the fact that the use of infrastructures, including those that will be built on the territory of Armenia with American partnership, will be carried out within the framework of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and jurisdiction of the countries.
In this regard, Mirzoyan thanked Araghchi for his principled assessment of the Washington agreements.
The interlocutors exchanged views on the preparation of the upcoming high-level consultations and contacts between Armenia and Iran.
On Iran's reaction to the results of the talks in Washington
On August 10, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that the issue of the corridor had been completely put aside, and that it was a transit route that would be laid under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of Armenia on its territory. At the same time, according to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, any foreign presence in the region in any form could have negative consequences for peace and stability in the region.
Earlier, Adviser to the Supreme Leader of the IRI on International Affairs Ali Akbar Velayati stated that Iran was against the creation of the so-called Zangezur Corridor and would block the American corridor in the Caucasus. According to Velayati, communication between Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan could be carried out through Iran.
