Mirzoyan: there is no political crisis in Armenia

YEREVAN, June 9. /ARKA/. There is no political crisis in Armenia, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said today at a joint press conference in Yerevan with visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Mirzoyan recalled that extraordinary parliamentary elections were held in 2021 summer, when the citizens of Armenia went to the polls and resolved the political crisis.

‘The snap parliamentary elections were recognized as democratic by absolutely all observers," Mirzoyan recalled.

According to him, the small number of anti-government protesters at rallies held by the opposition shows they are not supported by Armenian citizens.

‘But Armenia is a democratic country, and everyone has the right to hold peaceful rallies,’ he said.

"The opposition has the opportunity to criticize the government and ask questions while in parliament. But they don't do that," said Mirzoyan.

He said the organizers of the rallies say Armenia is pursuing a wrong foreign policy on the Karabakh issue and relations with Azerbaijan and Turkey.

"But strangely, we have never heard the opposition saying that if they came to power, they would renounce the trilateral agreements (reached by the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia), would withdraw from the process of delimitation of the border with Azerbaijan and would stop the process of unblocking regional communications," Mirzoyan said.

According to the minister, it would be logical if the opposition’s views were opposite to those of the authorities, which is not the case.

"This allows me to assume that the topics under discussion are subject to manipulation by the opposition," Mirzoyan said.
Anti-government protesters led by two opposition alliances- Hayastan and Pativ Unem- accuse Pashinyan of preparing to surrender Nagorno-Karabakh to Azerbaijan. Pashinyan and his allies deny these accusations. -0-
