More than 47% of Armenian citizens have a negative attitude towards the Washington Declaration, 40% - positive – GALLUP poll

A survey carried out by the Gallup International Association reveals that over 47% of participants hold a negative view regarding the joint declaration signed on August 8 in Washington by the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the United States.

YEREVAN, September 5. /ARКА/. A survey carried out by the Gallup International Association reveals that over 47% of participants hold a negative view regarding the joint declaration signed on August 8 in Washington by the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the United States.

According to Aram Navasardyan, the head of the Armenian office of the GALLUP International Association, 34% of those surveyed expressed a completely negative opinion of the document, while 13.6% indicated a rather negative stance. Conversely, 19.3% viewed it as rather positive, 22.8% as completely positive, and 7% found it challenging to provide an answer. Additionally, 3.3% of respondents were unaware of the joint declaration.

"The majority of responses are negative – approximately 47%, yet around 40% of responses are positive," he stated.

In total, 1,101 individuals participated in the telephone survey conducted in Armenia from August 25 to 30.

The seven-point declaration signed following the trilateral meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on August 8 in Washington includes the initialing of the “Agreement on Peace and Interstate Relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan”, the joint application to the OSCE on the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group mechanisms, the unblocking of regional communications within the framework of the principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, and jurisdiction of countries and on the basis of reciprocity, as well as the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” project.-0-
