Moscow declares Yerevan's right to relations "in all directions"

YEREVAN, January 14. /ARKA/. Armenia's decision to sign a strategic partnership agreement with the United States is an entirely sovereign right of "our Armenian friends," said Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the Russian president.

"The United States has never played a particularly stabilizing role in the South Caucasus, and one could even say the opposite. In this context, the United States is, of course, trying in every possible way to draw more and more countries into its orbit," Peskov said, according to RBC.

He emphasized that the conclusion of the agreement is "Armenia's sovereign right to develop relations in all directions."

Russia's position is based on the main principle, Peskov explained: "We have our own bilateral relations with Armenia, we value these relations, and we intend to continue developing them. Especially since, beyond bilateral aspects, our cooperation within integration processes, including the EAEU, is very important to us. Taken together, all of this constitutes a partnership that brings significant benefits to Armenia and its people."

Earlier, the Armenian Foreign Ministry announced that the United States and Armenia would sign a strategic partnership agreement on the evening of January 14.
