YEREVAN, September 19. /ARKA/. Mother Armenia bloc leader Andranik Tevanyan claimed today that the authorities were planning to recount the votes of the Sunday elections to Yerevan Council of Elders and called on citizens, primarily those who did not vote, to be ready for protests.

The Mother Armenia bloc won 35,739 votes (15.43%) in the polls. The other four parties that have won seats in the Council of Elders are Public Voice - 22,431 votes (9.68%), Civil Contract - 75,463 votes (32.57%), National Progress - 43,765 votes (18.89%) and Hanrapetutyun (Republic) party - 26,236 votes (11.32%)

Tevanyan claimed that the authorities plan to recount the votes at all 475 polling stations and through falsifications to achieve revision of the election results to grab one more seat in the Council of Elders that would give them majority (presumably in coalition with Hanrapetutyun party) and enable them to elect their candidate as mayor of Yerevan.

To elect their candidate as mayor a party or a bloc should control at least 33 seats in the 65-member assembly.

A mayoral candidate Hayk Marutyan stated the day before that the Civil Contract has won 24 seats, his National Progress - 14 seats, Mother Armenia bloc - 12 seats, Hanrapetutyun party - 8 seats and Public Voice party - 7 seats.

The Central Election Commission will announce the final results of the elections on September 24. -0-
