MP Gagik Abrahamyan enrolled in the ruling Republican Party of Armenia ahead of parliamentary elections but said he wouldn’t run again for a seat in National Assembly.
YEREVAN, March 17. /ARKA/. MP Gagik Abrahamyan enrolled in the ruling Republican Party of Armenia ahead of parliamentary elections but said he wouldn’t run again for a seat in National Assembly.
“I joined the party as a representative of business community, but I have no intention to run either through party lists or in an individual race,” he told ARKA News Agency.
He doesn’t seek another term in the parliament, as he said, because the country president is opposed to inclusion of entrepreneurs in the party’s electoral lists.
Gagik Abrahamyan held leadership positions yet in 1980s.
In 1984, at age 27, he headed Yekhegnadzor Condenser Works, and between 1992 and 1998 he was the director of the Shoghakn large enterprise in Nor Hachn.
Abrahamyan was an MP between 1990 and 1995, the first convocation parliament when Armenia obtained independence. He has had also other two terms in parliament.
In 1998, Abrahamyan established DCA diamond cutting company and chaired the company’s directorial board until 2007.
He also founded JCA jewelry company in 2001 and chaired its directorial board until 2007.
Abrahamyan was honorable consul of Armenia in the Republic of Korea between 2002 and 2004.
In 2006, he was elected in Switzerland as chairman of the International Armenian Jewelers Association.
In May 12, 2007 won a seat in National Assembly through Republican Party of Armenia. -0-
