Nagorno-Karabakh republic considers Crimea referendum as manifestation of peoples’ right to self-determination

The ministry of foreign affairs of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic responded to a referendum in the Crimea region of Ukraine by a statement saying it considers the March 16 plebiscite as another manifestation of the right of peoples to self-determination.
YEREVAN, March 18. / ARKA /. The ministry of foreign affairs of Nagorno-Karabakh Republic responded to a referendum in the Crimea region of Ukraine by a statement saying it considers the March 16 plebiscite as another manifestation of the right of peoples to self-determination.
"The right of every nation to choose its path of development and determine its own destiny through the democratic expression of will as enshrined in the UN Charter and a number of fundamental international instruments is one of the key principles of the international law," the statement says.
‘The experience of recent years , and in particular , the planned referendum in Catalonia (Spain) and Scotland (Great Britain) show that the recognition and implementation of the inalienable right of peoples to self-determination is the most democratic way of the peaceful resolution of such problems," the statement says.
The Nagorno-Karabakh foreign ministry expressed hope that the situation after the referendum in Crimea will be resolved legally and peacefully.
In the Sunday referendum 96.77 % of voters voted for the autonomous region to split from Ukraine and join the Russian Federation. -0-
