Nalbandian speaks about Armenia-EU visa regime liberalization
YEREVAN, April 13. /ARKA/. Edward Nalbandian, Armenian foreign minister, speaking Wednesday in Warsaw at an EU Eastern Partnership foreign-ministerial meeting, said that ensuring mobility and people-to-people contacts are essential for enhancing the connections between our societies.

«This was one of the core principles set into the foundations of the Eastern Partnership,» he said.
Nalbandian is quoted by the press office of the Armenian foreign ministry as saying that one of the ways to realize this commitment and to bring our societies closer is the visa free regime.

«Armenia and the EU for the past three years have been actively implementing the Visa Facilitation and Readmission Agreements,» he said. «The next step is the visa liberalization dialogue as targeted in the Riga Summit Declaration.»

On March 21st Armenia and the EU have initialed the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement that will reflect the depth and essence of our relations and set new guidelines for enhanced partnership.

It was expected that Yerevan would sign the agreement in November 2013 at the Vilnius Summit, but two months ahead of the signing date Armenia voiced its intention to join the Customs Union and participate in Eurasian integration. In January 2015, Armenia joined the Eurasian Economic Union.

Regardless of that, the European Union's foreign-ministerial board empowered the European Commission on October 12, 2015 in Luxembourg to launch negotiations with Armenia over a new comprehensive agreement. --0---
